CROSBY, STILLS & NASH RELEASES ALBUM & JOINS HALL OF FAME IN JUNE
Group’s 2009 European and US Tour Includes Puyallup Fair on Sept. 14
Puyallup, WA - May 22, 2009 - Four decades after their first concert together in front of the multitudes at Woodstock, Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) take to the road again for four months of dates in the U.S. Canada, Europe and the U.K. The tour - featuring David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash - kicks off June 3, the day after Rhino Records’ release of Demos, featuring 12 previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1968 and 1971. Just after the tour’s initial North American leg wraps, CSN will be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame (SHOF) on June 18 in New York City.
Demos spotlights destined-to-be-classic songs later heard on CSN’s group and solo titles. The disc opens with the trio harmonizing on “Marrakesh Express,” recorded four months before the song came out on the group’s self-titled 1969 debut LP. Other rarities include seminal takes on “Almost Cut My Hair,” “Chicago,” “Love The One You’re With,” “Sleep Song” and “Long Time Gone.”
The SHOF honor - which follows their 1997 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - recognizes CSN as a group, and each member as individual solo artists. It also acknowledges the groundbreaking music each created prior to forming CSN: The Byrds (Crosby), Buffalo Springfield (Stills) and The Hollies (Nash). This convergence of rock ‘n roll pedigrees led to CSN becoming known as music’s first “supergroup.”
Following the SHOF ceremony, the tour picks up internationally on June 27 in the U.K., when CSN plays the sold-out 2009 Glastonbury Festival. Other U.K. stops include London’s Royal Albert Hall, Cork, Ireland; Manchester, England; and Edinburgh, Scotland. The trio’s summer European itinerary also touches down on the Continent for four dates, including the Museum Plaza in Bonn, Germany and The Olympia in Paris, France.
CSN added a second North American leg to their 2009 tour, beginning on July 25 in Portland, ME. Among the many other highlights are shows at NY’s Jones Beach; Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA; Red Rocks in Colorado; and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The Sept. 14 date at the Puyallup Fair is part of the tour.
CSN’s music became a cornerstone of rock ‘n roll with their self-titled 1969 debut LP, now one of Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” 1970’s Déjà Vu—another “500 Greatest”—followed, the first album from the group’s four-man line-up with Neil Young (CSN&Y). Ever since - through changing times and various configurations - Crosby, Stills & Nash have continued to tour and record as “three together.”
